Líneas de Investigación

1- Biología de células madre neurales (CMNs/NSCs) y neurogénesis.

  • Aislamiento y caracterización celular, molecular y del transcriptoma de CMNs del bulbo olfatorio (BO) embrionario y adulto.
  • Funciones y mecanismos de acción de factores de transcripción (Tbr1, Gsx2, Pax6 y Nurr1) y la regulación epigenética en la autorrenovación y multipotencialidad de las CMNs.
  • Funciones y mecanismos de acción de factores de crecimiento (FGF-2,
    IGF-I y BDNF) en neurogénesis y sinaptogénesis.

2- Desarrollo de modelos celulares humanos para estudiar las enfermedades de Parkinson y Alzheimer. Mecanismos de Neurodegeneración. Terapia celular.

  • Obtención de células madre pluripotentes inducidas (células iPS/iPSCs) por reprogramación de fibroblastos humanos.
  • Generación de neuronas dopaminérgicas, corticales e hipocampales a partir de iPSCs. Estudios de maduración neuronal y funcionalidad sináptica. Mecanismos. Corrección del fenotipo.

La imagen B representa una neurona hipocampal en cultivo celular teñida con anticuerpos contra MAP2ab (dendritas; azul) y Sinaptofisina que marca los botones presinápticos.

En las imágenes se muestran fibroblastos humanos reprogramados genéticamente a células madre pluripotentes inducidas (Células iPS) y éstas, a su vez, diferenciadas a neuronas y astrocitos.
